Semarang, io.undip.ac.id – Kanazawa University Short-Stay Program (KU-SSP) Winter 2023-2024
Purpose
This program provides Japanese language and culture courses, for students from the institutions that have an
exchange agreement with Kanazawa University.
Program Period
February 9 (Fri.) – February 22 (Thu.), 2024 (2 weeks)
Number of Students
3 min. -10 max.
Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements.
They must…
1. be currently enrolled in the undergraduate/graduate program at the partner universities of Kanazawa University;
2. be in good academic standing;
3. have a clear purpose for study abroad as well as full intention to devote themselves to academic and other
cultural activities;
4. go back to their home institutions and continue their education after finishing the program;
5. be able to obtain appropriate visa status in Japan, and
6. be proficient in English (CEFR B2 level) and have studied the Japanese language for more than two years.

※Tuition 14,800 yen per credit (Tuition fees are not collected within the range of the number of students stated in
the memorandum of agreement.)
Japan Student Service Organization (JASSO) Scholarship – JPY 80,000
Up to 10 participants in the program belonging to the institutions that have concluded a Memorandum on Student
Exchange with Kanazawa University and having the nationality of the countries or regions that have diplomatic
relations with Japan will be paid a monthly stipend, if accepted as a JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization)
scholarship grantee.
(Note: Students from Taiwan are also considered eligible. Students who have Japanese
citizenship are NOT eligible.)
APPLICATION FOR KU-SSP 2023
Step 1: Fill out the application form [ 別紙2‗KU-SSP Winter2023-2024_Application form] and prepare additional documents below.
* Official or unofficial transcript from the applicant’s home institution
(1 copy, PDF format)
* ID photo (1 copy, 3cm x 4cm, JPEG or other digital format)
* Photocopy of the ID page of the applicant’s passport (1 copy, PDF
format)
* Proof of Japanese or English Proficiency (or a letter of recommendation
issued by a specialist in language education) (1 copy, PDF format)
* Certificate of overseas travel insurance which covers full medical expenses in Japan
Step 2: Submit the completed application materials to the international office of the home institution. Note that
Kanazawa University only accepts application through the applicant’s home institution. Application by an
individual student will not be processed.
Step 3: The applicant’s home institution will send the application materials to Kanazawa University by the
following deadline:

Kanazawa University will notify students of their acceptance to the program in December 2023 (for Winter
Program) through their home institutions.

Participants are required to have the KU-insurance covering personal liability during the program activities.
Courses
This program offers a Japanese language course and a culture course. In the Japanese language course, students will
develop the communication skills for everyday life in Japan.
In the culture course, students will learn the Calendar system and Time culture in the history of Japan. This course
will be conducted in Japanese, and it has two parts: the on-campus part and the off-campus part. In the former,
students will study how the ancient Calendar system was introduced to Japan from China and how it went through
changes in the history of Japan. Moreover, they will learn about the changes in Japanese people’s recognition of
Time in history.
In the off-campus part of the culture course, students will visit several spots and facilities in Kanazawa, where
antique and modern cultures coexist. Through this activity, they will find both the historical Calendar and the Time
culture still alive in this city. After these activities, students will select one topic and do research on it based on
which they will give a presentation while introducing the recognition of Calendar and Time in their own culture.

1. Visit to cultural heritage and temples
2. Visit to museums and other cultural facilities
3. Research on Kanazawa’s traditional spots
4. Discussions and presentations in class

Requirements:
- Stated as permanent lecturer under Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology;
- National Lecturer ID Number (Nomor Induk Dosen Nasional);
- Permission letter from the authorities (for PTN) and/or the Head of Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tinggi (LDDikti) from the respective region;
- Graduate from magister programme maximum 5 years per registration period;
- Have not graduate and have any on-going doctoral programme;
- Have an English Proficiency Test from the last two years per 2023 with minimum score:
- TOEFL iBT® 90
- TOEFL ITP® 550
- IELTS™ 6,5
- Have a 2-4 pages of research proposal (title, content, methodology, and timetable) that has been approved by the supervisor in university in Austria;
- Maximum age of 35 per 31 December 2023;
- CV written in English;
- Two (2) recommendation letter written in English (can be from Magister Supervisor or other authorities);
- Active passport (minimum 1 year active);
- Unconditional Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from host universities;
- Certificate and transcript of Magister Program in English;
- Healthy, both physically and mentally, proven by the government medical certificate;
- Applicants with marriage status, or who are husband/wife, and have the same scientific field, are not allowed to apply to the same university and/or be guided by the same supervisor.
