UNDIP International Students Celebrate Cultural Harmony at Grebeg Sudiro Surakarta 2026

UNDIP International Students Celebrate Cultural Harmony at Grebeg Sudiro Surakarta 2026

Surakarta, 15 February 2026 – International students of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) took part in the International Parade at the Grebeg Sudiro Cultural Carnival on February 15, 2026, in Surakarta (Solo). Their participation highlighted intercultural exchange within one of Central Java’s most prominent cultural festivals.

Held annually in the historic Pasar Gede and Sudiroprajan areas, Grebeg Sudiro is widely recognized as a celebration of harmony between Javanese and Chinese traditions ahead of the Lunar New Year. The festival features traditional performances, lion dances, artistic processions, and the iconic gunungan kue keranjang, symbolizing prosperity and gratitude.

During the parade, UNDIP’s international students marched alongside local cultural groups while wearing traditional attire from their respective countries. Their presence added a vibrant global dimension to the celebration and was warmly welcomed by thousands of visitors lining the parade route.

Beyond the festivities, the event provided meaningful experiential learning. By engaging directly with local communities, students experienced Indonesia’s values of inclusivity, tolerance, and cultural coexistence. Their involvement reflects UNDIP’s commitment to internationalization through cultural immersion and community engagement.

Ir. Dwi Larso, M.SIE., Ph.D., as the keynote speaker, shared his academic and professional experiences during his studies abroad. He emphasized that international study experience represents one of the most valuable phases in personal and intellectual development, contributing significantly to character building and the expansion of global networks. Participants were encouraged to dream boldly, proactively build international connections, and take advantage of available scholarship opportunities.

Furthermore, Ir. Dwi Larso, M.SIE., Ph.D. elaborated on various LPDP scholarship schemes, including joint degree, double degree, and co-funding programs. These schemes enable students and academic staff to gain structured international academic experience and are considered strategic instruments in supporting Undip’s vision of becoming a world-class university.

The info session also highlighted international collaboration opportunities that Undip has established and continues to develop with partner universities abroad, particularly in the fields of applied agriculture, agribusiness, and other interdisciplinary areas. These programs provide pathways for students to complete part of their studies at Undip and continue their education at partner institutions overseas.

DOWNLOAD LPDP HIGHLIGHTS

The event was further strengthened by the participation of the Diponegoro International Office (DIO), represented by Mr. Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Deputy Head of the International Office of Universitas Diponegoro. His presence underscored Undip’s strategic role in expanding global partnerships and supporting its academic community in accessing international education opportunities.

Through this socialization program, Universitas Diponegoro hopes to inspire more members of its academic community to take advantage of LPDP scholarship opportunities and actively engage in international programs, thereby contributing to national development and enhancing Indonesia’s global competitiveness.

LPDP Joint Degree / Double Degree Programme

The Joint Degree and Double Degree Program of 2026 offered by Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) is designed to strengthen international academic collaboration and enhance the global competitiveness of Indonesian scholars. This scheme provides opportunities for outstanding Indonesian students to pursue graduate studies through structured partnerships between domestic and international universities.

The Double Degree Program enables students to study at two partner universities—one in Indonesia and one abroad—and earn two separate academic degrees within a single integrated study period. This model allows students to benefit from complementary academic strengths, research environments, and cross-cultural experiences.

Meanwhile, the Joint Degree Program is conducted under a formal collaboration between two universities, where students complete a unified curriculum jointly designed and supervised by both institutions. Upon completion, graduates receive a single degree that is jointly conferred by the partner universities.

Through these programs, LPDP aims to accelerate knowledge transfer, expand global networks, and cultivate future leaders equipped with international perspectives and strong academic foundations. The 2026 scheme continues to emphasize academic excellence, institutional partnership, and strategic alignment with Indonesia’s national development priorities.

Both programs reflect LPDP’s commitment to fostering world-class human resources and promoting meaningful collaboration between Indonesian higher education institutions and leading universities worldwide.
