About
The “Scholars Programme on EU-ASEAN Relations (SPEAR)” is a series of discussions for
academics in the ASEAN region, including Timor Leste.
Applicants must be full-time or part-time scholars whose research and teaching focuses
on international relations, ASEAN studies, EU foreign policy or related fields, hold at least a Master’s degree or equivalent, a citizens and residents of one of the 10 ASEAN.
SPEAR 2025 will consist for maximum 20 applicants and 7 sessions (incl. 3 site events) covering a range of topics, commencing on 11-12 November 2025 at Yudistira Room of Artotel Gelora Senayan Hotel Jakarta, Indonesia.
How to Participate?
Application Period: 2 September – 3 October 2025, each applicant must submit CV, a Statement of Purpose, and supporting documents (no later than Friday, 3 October 2025 at 12.00 noon (Jakarta time) via online at: www.eu.spear.org). Announcement of the selected participants will be posted on the above-mentioned website and EU social media on Monday, 20 October 2025.

We start each semester with the Pre-Arrival Information Session (online), BUI orientation (on campus) and Post-Arrival Information Session (on campus).
The semester dates are published on website https://www.bu.ac.th/en/calendar/bachelor-degree/2025 . Dates for the BUI orientation and the Post-Arrival Information Session will be announced in the Pre-Arrival Information Session.
Visa
International students require a Non-ED student visa to study in Thailand. We will provide you with the Visa Request Letter. Please apply for your student visa at the designated Royal Thai Embassy in your country.
Accommodation
On-campus residence is available but limited. Finding short-term accommodation nearby may take some planning, but there are plenty of great options available. Please visit our website https://internationalcenter.bu.ac.th/SS_housing.php . for information on available options, or contact our staff at studyabroad@bu.ac.th for accommodation assistance.
Scholarships
Scholarships for inbound exchange and visiting students are available. This is a fantastic opportunity for students who wish to expand their global perspectives and gain invaluable international experience.
