Visa and Stay Permit

International students planning to study at Universitas Diponegoro are required to obtain the appropriate visa before entering Indonesia. Please note that a Visa and a Stay Permit are different documents under Indonesian immigration regulations.

Important Notice

As mentioned in Indonesia’s laws and regulations, visa and stay permit are two different things, meaning that once you get visa does not mean that you are eligible to stay in Indonesia. For example, a person gets a Student Visa. When he/she reaches Indonesia has only 30 days to change the visa into a temporary stay permit. This information will be explained more in the stay permit section below.

  • Diplomatic Visa

  • Service Visa

  • Student Visa 

  • Visit Visa

International Students who plan to study (6-month student exchange, Bachelor, Master or Doctoral) must obtain Limited Stay Visa for Education Purposes or shortly called Student Visa (Indexed C316). This type of visa allows you to stay in Indonesia from 3 months to 2 years (per period). International Students who are using other types of Visa are prohibited.

Student Visa

International Students only endorsed to use Student Visa (Index C316) to enter Indonesian territory. This type of Visa can only be obtained in Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General in students’ home country. Before the International students apply this Visa, they have to contact university / school to manage pre-application Visa because they need certificate of Visa approval from Indonesia immigration head quarter in Jakarta. Once the Visa approval is gained, the students then apply Visa in the nearest Indonesian Embassy or Consulate.

Requirements

  1. Letter of study permit
  2. Scanned cover of passport
  3. Scanned identity page of passport
  4. Bank statement (balance : minimum USD 1500)

  • IDR 200.000 for Visa approval
  • USD 150 for one year Visa

Visit Visa


The Visit Visa (Index B211A) is intended for foreigners participating in
short-term academic programs at Universitas Diponegoro, such as short courses,
training, research visits, or academic exchange programs lasting
less than 3 months.

If your program exceeds three months (for example, a semester exchange or
clinical internship), you must apply for a
Student Visa (Index C316) instead.

Application Process

  1. Contact the relevant Faculty, School, or Department regarding your participation in the program.
  2. Receive a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Universitas Diponegoro.
  3. Obtain the required Visa Request Letter and Letter of Guarantee issued by the university.
  4. Submit your application to the nearest Indonesian Embassy or Consulate by providing:
    • Original passport
    • Letter of Acceptance (LoA)
    • Visa Request Letter
    • Letter of Guarantee
    • Copy of the Indonesian ID Card (KTP) of the guarantor

Visa & Stay Permit

Understanding Visa & Stay Permit

As mentioned in Indonesia’s laws and regulations, Visa and Stay Permit are two different legal documents. Obtaining a visa does not automatically grant permission to stay in Indonesia.
         

Important Information

For example, international students entering Indonesia using a Student Visa must convert their visa into a Temporary Stay Permit within 30 days after arrival. The stay permit process is explained further in the following section.

Types of Indonesian Visa

Indonesia provides four categories of visas for foreign nationals:

Diplomatic Visa

Issued for diplomatic missions and official state assignments.

Service Visa

Issued for official government or institutional purposes.

Limited Stay Visa

Student Visa (Index C316) belongs to this category and is required for international students studying in Indonesia.

Visit Visa

Intended for short-term visits, exchange programmes, and temporary academic activities.
Important: International students enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral, or student exchange programmes must obtain a Limited Stay Visa for Educational Purposes (Index C316). Students using other visa categories are not permitted to study in Indonesia.

Student Visa

Limited Stay Visa for Education (Index C316)

International students are only permitted to enter Indonesia using a Student Visa (Index C316). This visa can only be obtained through an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the applicant’s home country.

Before Applying

Before applying for a Student Visa, international students must contact Universitas Diponegoro to initiate the visa pre-application process. The University will assist in obtaining a Visa Approval Letter issued by the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta. Once the approval is issued, applicants may proceed with the visa application at the nearest Indonesian Embassy or Consulate.

Visit Visa

Visit Visa (Index B211A)

Foreign nationals participating in short-term programmes at Universitas Diponegoro are strongly encouraged to obtain a Visit Visa (Index B211A).
Who should apply? This visa is intended for international participants staying in Indonesia for less than 3 months, such as exchange programmes, academic visits, or other short-term activities.   Applicants who plan to stay longer, such as for clinical internships, one-semester CTS programmes, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral studies, must apply for a Student Visa (Index C316) instead.

Contact the Faculty / School

Inform the University, Faculty, or School about your intention to participate in the programme.

Receive Letter of Acceptance (LoA)

The University, Faculty, or School will issue your Letter of Acceptance (LoA).

Visa Supporting Documents

The University will prepare Surat Permohonan and Jaminan Visa to support your visa application.

Apply at the Indonesian Embassy

Submit your original passport, Letter of Acceptance, Surat Permohonan, Jaminan Visa, and the scanned Indonesian Identity Card of the guarantor to the nearest Indonesian Embassy, Consulate General, or Representative Office.

Estimated processing time is approximately 5 working days.
