Courses
This program offers a Japanese language course and a culture course. In the Japanese language course, students will
develop the communication skills for everyday life in Japan.
In the culture course, students will learn the Calendar system and Time culture in the history of Japan. This course
will be conducted in Japanese, and it has two parts: the on-campus part and the off-campus part. In the former,
students will study how the ancient Calendar system was introduced to Japan from China and how it went through
changes in the history of Japan. Moreover, they will learn about the changes in Japanese people’s recognition of
Time in history.
In the off-campus part of the culture course, students will visit several spots and facilities in Kanazawa, where
antique and modern cultures coexist. Through this activity, they will find both the historical Calendar and the Time
culture still alive in this city. After these activities, students will select one topic and do research on it based on
which they will give a presentation while introducing the recognition of Calendar and Time in their own culture.
Sample topics for the culture course:
1. Visit to cultural heritage and temples
2. Visit to museums and other cultural facilities
3. Research on Kanazawa’s traditional spots
4. Discussions and presentations in class
